If You Are a Federal Employee with an Accepted Condition
If you are a federal employee with an accepted work-related condition, OWCP may cover psychological evaluation and treatment. Waypoint Psychology is an enrolled provider and works within OWCP's eligibility, authorization, documentation, and reporting requirements.

What We Can and Cannot Be Responsible For
Under FECA, a clinical psychologist serves as a physician for conditions within the scope of psychological practice. We can be the responsible provider for your psychological condition. We cannot serve as the responsible physician for conditions with a physical component, so if your claim involves a physical injury, you will continue to work with your treating physician for that part of your care.
Choosing Your Provider
Federal employees generally have the right to an initial choice of treating physician. A written referral from your established treating physician to an appropriate specialist is ordinarily honored without a separate change-of-provider request. If you are unsure which situation applies to you, tell us during intake and we will help you identify it.
What to Bring to Your First Appointment
- Your OWCP claim number
- Your acceptance letter, showing the accepted condition or conditions
- The name and contact information of your treating physician
- Any Form CA-16 issued by your agency
- A list of current medications
- Photo identification
How Authorization Works
Some services are payable without prior authorization. Others, including psychological testing, generally require authorization before they are performed. We check the current requirement for each service in the OWCP portal and obtain authorization before scheduling. We will tell you where your case stands rather than asking you to interpret your own paperwork.
Roles We Do Not Mix
We do not perform second opinion or referee examinations for people we are treating. Those are different roles with different obligations, and combining them would undermine both.
