Psychological Care for Former Energy Workers
Evaluation and treatment of conditions developed as a consequence of accepted Department of Energy-related illnesses.
If you worked at a Department of Energy site and have an illness that has been accepted under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program, the program may also cover psychological conditions that developed because of that illness.
What a Consequential Illness Is
A consequential illness is a separate condition that a physician concludes was caused or made worse by an illness already accepted under the program. Depression, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions can develop in the course of a serious accepted illness. When that connection can be documented, it may be claimable.
What We Do
We provide the psychological evaluation, diagnosis, and written rationale connecting your psychological condition to your accepted illness. If the condition is accepted, we can also provide ongoing treatment.
What We Do Not Do
We do not file claims for you. Claims for a consequential illness are filed on Form EE-1A, which can be submitted through the Energy Document Portal or with help from a DEEOIC Resource Center. Resource Centers assist claimants at no cost. We are also not the right provider for impairment ratings, which assess whole organ systems and are performed by other physicians.
Cost
DEEOIC does not require a copayment or a deductible. Enrolled providers are paid directly by the program.
Texas Sites
Texas sites covered under the program include the Pantex Plant in Amarillo and the Medina Modification Center in San Antonio, along with several smaller facilities. Whether a particular person is covered depends on where and when they worked, the work they performed, and their diagnosis, and the Department of Energy maintains the authoritative facility list.
Many people worked at these sites for a contractor or subcontractor rather than for the Department of Energy directly. The Department of Labor maintains a searchable database of those employers.
